Benzema Hat-Trick Knocks Out PSG, Real Madrid Advances
Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Wednesday night, 9 March, proved to be one of the most exciting UEFA Champions League (UCL) matches to date.
The home crowd at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid, Spain not only got to enjoy seeing their side win, but vice-skipper Karim Benzema can boast about being the sole contributor to the scoreboard and getting Real through to the UCL quarter-finals.
PSG looked commanding in the first half, but they found the Spanish side to be no pushovers as forward Kylian Mbappe put them first on the board in the 39th minute after he capitalised on a corner kick from team-mate Neymar.
Everything changed in the second half for Los Blancos: PSG imploded with multiple errors, giving striker Karim Benzema room to find the back of Les Parisiens’ net at the 61st-minute mark.
At the 76th minute, Benzema put Madrid ahead as he made good on a superb strike from Luka Modric, and two minutes later, he completed his hat-trick from a defensive mistake and handed his squad a 3-2 aggregate victory.
The UCL quarter-final placings will be determined by the end of next week.
